Southampton Connections

01 September 2006

The University of Southampton, one of the top ten research universities in the UK, has long been a centre of excellence in the field of survey research methods, particularly in social research. Now, the university’s School of Management is inaugurating a new MSc in Marketing Analytics under the leadership of Dr David Birks, co-author with Naresh Malhotra of the popular MR text “Marketing Research – an applied approach” (European edition). In launching this new, highly practical course, David is is forging a number of links with practitioners in the field to contribute an industry perspective to the programme.

In June, the University invited Tim Macer, MD of meaning, to participate in its research and teaching as a Senior Visiting Fellow. “I am honoured and excited to be involved,” said Tim. “It fits perfectly with the research and inquiry we already undertake at meaning and takes the analysis of the application of technology and data in marketing research to the next level.”

This is meaning’s second connection to the University, as Alan Taylor, Director of meaning, was last year appointed Teaching Fellow, for his involvement in an innovative postgraduate distance learning program in leadership and management in voluntary and not-for-profit organizations, a course which meaning has been involved with for over five years now.
